Meikyo Chelsea True
Meikyo Chelsea True (she/they) first encountered Buddhism as a child and began meditating at the age of sixteen. She came to Green Gulch Farm Zen Center with her daughter, Amelie, nearly twenty years ago and has supported the growth of family practice with San Francisco Zen Center’s (SFZC’s) three temples ever since.
In 2018, Meikyo served as shuso (head monk) with Dharma Heart Zen, allowing her to begin teaching. In 2025, she received lay-entrustment from her beloved teacher, Hoka Chris Fortin, authorizing her as a lay teacher in the Soto Zen lineage of Suzuki Roshi and allowing her to support Zen students.
As a neurodivergent person, Meikyo values the silence and solitude of contemplative life. Her practice includes reciprocity with nature, healing our collective trauma, and supporting people within the cultural, racial, socioeconomic, and historical contexts of their lives. She hopes her teaching reflects a warm and ancestral form of Zen.
